Kaia of the Sea | San Francisco Golden Gate Park |
The girl's name Kaia is a variant of Kai (Hawaiian) and Kaya (Japanese, Zulu, Turkish, Hopi, Hindi), and the meaning of Kaia is "the sea; restful place, yew tree, forgiveness; home; stone; willow, wise child; the one with the beautiful body, profile" Scandinavian - pure, Greek - from the earth.
I've always been interested in etymology, taking careful consideration when naming my own children. On what felt like the coldest day of winter, I was filled up with warmth photographing beautiful 10 month old Kaia. (who coincidentally shares the same namesake as our 3rd born.) We spent the morning playing at the Koret Children's Playground in Golden Gate Park where Kaia took her first carousel ride, sat under a giant ocean wave and snuggled her mama as they listened to her papa strum his guitar. (Kaia's parents are both talented musicians and artists.) After a fun morning of leaky cold noses we ended our session at Ocean Beach, how fitting. I could hang out with this family all day! They were so laid back and easy going which makes for such an enjoyable shoot. Mega cute baby and super styling fits, help a little too. ;) xoxo, nancy

And Then There Were Three | Sacramento Newborn Baby Photographer |
They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and in this case, 6 week old Anthony got his good looks from both his mom and dad. This sweet little family was introduced to me by Anthony's Auntie who contacted me all the way from Texas. How nice is that? Sisters are the best! It makes me so happy to see young growing families. I remember that feeling. <3 |

Sweet Ena | San Francisco Baby Photographer |

How adorable is this one year old baby girl? Those cheeks, lips and wavy wisps of hair! She has the sweetest parents too and we had a blast hanging out around their neighborhood. Through outfit and location changes, Ena maintained the sweetest disposition. I love the floral jumper that her mom made for her. She has some mad crafting skills, including some crocheted nunchucks and a Bruce Lee bright yellow jumpsuit. SO CUTE! The traditional Korean hanbok gown was worn to celebrate her dol, or first birthday. The colors and detail are so striking! Thanks for letting me share this special time with you!

Napa Valley Wedding | I'm Smitten...I Glove You! | Karen and Tom |
This past December Michael and I had the opportunity to photograph our very first wedding together. Karen and Tom were referred to Bug and Bean by our amazing clients Jung and Tricia. All three women are in the design field and have incredible style and impeccable taste..no pressure! Karen and Tom who live in Seattle were planning their destination wedding in the Napa Valley and having never met us or seen any of our work other than our children's portfolio, in blind faith hired us to photograph their amazing wedding. What an honor! Thank you for believing in us. We enjoyed every single minute of it! The wedding was held at the gorgeous (and eco friendly!) Bardessono Hotel in Yountville. The ceremony and reception were intimate and perfect in every possible way. Congratulations Karen and Tom and cheers to many joyous filled days together. Thank for letting us share this special day with you. It's good to see people in love! :)
P.S. Karen's beautiful daughter/flower girl Clara doubled as our assistant that night and did an amazing job!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

After a busy holiday season, the Bug and Bean crew is recharged and excited for what the new year has in store for us. 2009 was an amazing year for Bug and Bean full of ups (and some downs-lessons learned!) and we look forward to another year of new friends, adorable babies and further business growth and development. We are so thankful for all of the wonderful new families that we had the pleasure of photographing as well as all of our returning families-such a treat! All of your support and incredible word of mouth helped name us The Best Family Photographer in San Francisco and Sacramento by Nickelodeon's Parent Connect as well as one of the Top 5 Baby Photographers in the Bay Area by the Golden Gate Mother's Group. What an honor! Thank you so much!
Look out for some upcoming announcements in 2010. We are working hard on building a brand new web site, blog and wedding brand. We will be sending out a monthly newsletter highlighting Bug and Bean news, promotions, products and featured sessions. Be sure to sign up under the newsletter tab. We're swirling with new ideas and inspirations for 2010!
